Sustainability

Responsibility
is not an
afterthought

At DALB, ethical making is not a position we arrived at — it is the foundation the brand was built on. Every choice, from the first sketch to the final stitch, is made with awareness of its cost to the world.

Explore our identity
Our Approach

We believe that how a garment is made matters as much as how it looks.

The fashion industry is one of the most resource-intensive in the world. DALB was founded in full awareness of that — and with a clear determination to operate differently. Not as a gesture, not as a marketing stance, but as a genuine commitment woven into every decision we make.

That means slowing down. Making less. Choosing materials with care. Working only with people we know and trust. And being honest about what we do and what we still aspire to — because sustainability is not a destination, it is a discipline.

Our commitments

The principles behind every choice

01

Small-batch production

DALB produces only in limited editions — never in volumes that exceed genuine demand. Overproduction is, to us, a failure of design, not a side effect of success.

02

Made entirely in Romania

Every garment is produced in Bucharest, by independent ateliers whose craft and working conditions we know personally. No outsourcing. No anonymous supply chains.

03

Designed for longevity

A garment that lasts ten years is, by definition, more sustainable than one that lasts one. DALB pieces are designed to endure — in construction, in material, and in aesthetic relevance.

DALB — Materials
Materials

Chosen with care.
Every yard.

DALB works with refined, luxurious fabrics — including archived and deadstock materials that would otherwise go to waste. We choose materials not only for how they feel and fall, but for where they come from and what they cost the environment to produce.

Natural fibres, considered blends, responsibly sourced textiles. When we cannot source perfectly, we source honestly — and we continue to look for better.

Local craft

People we know
by name.

Romania has an extraordinary tradition of textile craft — one that has too often gone unrecognised, with skilled tailors working anonymously for international labels at wages that do not reflect their skill or their care.

DALB was founded partly to change that. We know every person in our production chain. We pay fairly, we work consistently with the same ateliers, and we consider their expertise an essential part of what makes each garment worth keeping.

How we operate

Five practices that define
responsible making

These are not aspirations — they are the way DALB has operated since its founding in 2019.

01

No excess production

We make only what we have designed with intention. Our collections are limited by design — not as a scarcity tactic, but because making more than is needed is a form of waste we refuse to participate in.

02

Deadstock and archive fabrics

Several of our collections incorporate archived or deadstock materials — beautiful fabrics that already exist, already carry an environmental cost, and would otherwise go unused. Giving them a second life is one of the simplest things we can do.

03

Transparent local supply chain

We produce exclusively in Bucharest, with independent ateliers we have worked with for years. Our supply chain is short, visible, and accountable — which is, in itself, a sustainability position.

04

Timeless design as an ecological act

Every piece designed to transcend a single season is a piece that does not need to be replaced. Our aesthetic commitment to classical, enduring silhouettes is inseparable from our commitment to reducing consumption.

05

Honest communication

We do not use the language of sustainability as decoration. When we make claims, they are grounded in practice — and when our practice falls short of our ideals, we say so. Integrity in communication is part of integrity in making.

"A garment worth keeping is a garment worth making well — and making well means making it honestly, from beginning to end."
